The PTS‑M is a large Soviet amphibious transport vehicle designed to move heavy cargo, troops, and light vehicles across rivers, lakes, and flooded terrain. Its hull is shaped like a boat, allowing it to float and navigate in water while still operating effectively on land thanks to its long tracked chassis. This combination makes the PTS‑M extremely versatile in military engineering operations, disaster response, and amphibious logistics.

The vehicle is powered by a high‑performance V‑46‑5 diesel engine, the same family used in the T‑72 tank, giving it enough strength to carry loads of up to 10–12 tons on land and slightly less when afloat. Despite its size, it can reach speeds of over 40 km/h on land and around 10–12 km/h in water using its dual rear propellers.

Its hull is made of welded steel armor, offering protection against small‑arms fire and fragmentation. The elevated cabin with wide rectangular windows provides good visibility for the crew, while the interior space is designed to accommodate large quantities of equipment or dozens of soldiers depending on the mission.
