Farming Simulator 22: Release Date, Trailer, Gameplay

It’s been quite a long time since Farming Simulator 22 came out. We bet quite a number of dedicated players are starting to wonder when they can expect the next installment.  Sure, many fans are very happy (unlike some rumors would like you to think)  with FS22. Still, we are all beginning to get excited about the future prospects and wonder what Farming Simulator 22 will look like. And, very important –when are we finally going to have the chance to try out the new game?

Well, not many people who are not part of Giants Software, can tell anything regarding the next game in the FS franchise. In fact, we cannot be sure that there will be a Farming Simulator 22 at all.

FS22? Or Maybe a New Business Model?

Let’s start with taking a closer look at the PC version of the Farming Simulator games. This is a breakdown of the dates when the different installments were launched:

Farming Simulator 2008 – April 2008.

Farming Simulator 2009 – August 2009.

Farming Simulator 2011 – October 2010.

Farming Simulator 2013 – October 2012.

Farming Simulator 2015 – October 2014.

Farming Simulator 17 – October 2016.

Farming Simulator 21 – Canceled.

Farming Simulator 22 – Q4 2021.

Well, can you spot the pattern? Since FS2011 every game has been coming out practically every two years.  And almost all the titles (not the first two, though) were released at the end of the year.

Judging by this, it seems safe to conclude that Farming Simulator 22 will be launched late in autumn, 2021. Possibly more than a year from now.

On the other hand, we cannot assume that this pattern will remain forever. It is quite possible that the company will fancy a change, and the next version of the game will appear unexpectedly.

The Two-Year Cycle

Farming Simulator 19 got plenty of attention when it came out. A lot of players, particularly the experienced ones who have been playing the game since 2008 and 2009, commented that the new game was rushed. It needed refining. A lot of fans said that the two-year release cycle is not a good decision, that it needs to be longer to guarantee a higher quality result.

Admittedly, the game suffered from bugs on the day it was launched. And some very important features, such as the landscaping mode, were installed and perfected later on.

Although Giants never admitted that the game was not exactly ready when it was launched, it definitely felt that way, and many players agreed it could have been developed better, with more accuracy.

The latest FS games are rather complicated. There is much more complex now than before. Maybe two-years interval is really not enough to finalize the product?  

Of course, we’re not saying anything for certain. But we definitely wouldn’t be surprised if we got Farming Simulator 22 for PC and console in 2021, rather than FS22 in 2021.

The SCS Way

SCS Software is one more hugely successful simulation games’ developer. Two of its products, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator brought a lot of profit to the company. However, the SCS business model differs in many ways from that of Giants Software.

SCS does not release new game versions periodically, the company sells expansion packs.

American Truck Simulator differs very little from the version that came out in 2016. However, the game has grown because a number of DLCs were released into the market, and this way players were able to drive their digital trucks in different states.

The same was applied in the case of ETS2.

Farming Simulator 1?

It would be totally possible to apply an identical business model for  Farming Simulator games. Instead of releasing brand new games from time to time, Giants could offer players access to various new features, such as maps, machinery, instruments, and gameplay mechanisms. This way new technology and features would find their way into the game.

Once again, these are just our ideas… But you have to face the fact that it’s possible that there will be no Farming Simulator 21 or 22…

How about the company releases Farming Simulator 1 instead? A completely new farm simulation platform that would serve as a basis for future  DLCs and expansion packs and would keep the fans engaged for many years to come?

When Will We Have the Answers?

Ok, let us get serious now… When will we finally have the answer to the question that keeps nagging in our minds – will we have a Farming Simulator 21? And when can we expect to know to announce the release date?

Giants could possibly share more information with us during  FarmCon 22 later in the year. But we do not think the company will be eager to talk much about the new game. They are most likely to focus on selling DLCs before considering the next installment seriously…

We think it is more likely that we’ll be told more during Focus Home Interactive’s annual press meeting ‘What’s Next’ at the beginning of 2020. We first heard about FS22 at the event that took place on February 2018. And the news about FS17 appeared at the 2016 edition of the same event…

There is every reason to believe that at the beginning of 2021, we will know more answers…
